CVS/pharmacy was the first in the industry to launch and carry out a successful loyalty program −  ExtraCare® − and the easy-to-use savings and rewards structure has always set the program apart from the rest. Customers love ExtraCare® because it is truly designed with consumers in mind – offering personalized value to each and every member, in the store, online and on-the-go.

Through the CVS/pharmacy ExtraCare® program, shoppers can save and earn rewards on nearly everything they buy – from household goods and beauty products, to gifts items for family and friends, and health needs and prescriptions. Each time they shop, cardholders can scan their card for ExtraSavings™, in the form of personalized coupons, weekly circular deals, and automatic discounts when they shop at CVS/pharmacy, and ExtraBucks® Rewards, "free CVS money" that can be used on most things at CVS/pharmacy. Some restrictions apply.

Since its launch, CVS/pharmacy has continued to innovate by offering shoppers new and personalized ways to save through ExtraCare®. Today, consumers can use CVS.com, the CVS/pharmacy Mobile smartphone app and the CVS/pharmacy iPad app to help save even more money while shopping at their local CVS/pharmacy. Additionally, they can turn to their personalized digital circular, myWeekly Ad, to see all of their ExtraCare® deals in one place, create a shopping list and view all the weekly deals organized just for them. Customers can also send coupons and ExtraBucks® Rewards to their cards from CVS.com, ExtraCare emails and the mobile app. In addition, ExtraCare® members can scan their cards at the ExtraCare Coupon Center before they shop to receive exclusive offers, a summary of their coupons and available ExtraBucks® Rewards they can use right away.

ExtraCare® members can also opt-in to receive additional coupons and health and beauty information via email.  Members like having choices as to which parts of the overall ExtraCare program they want to take advantage of – and in keeping with the company’s mission to help customers on their path to better health, CVS/pharmacy has introduced “opt-in” programs for members to receive additional savings and rewards that fit their lifestyle.

The ExtraCare Advantage for Diabetes program, launched in 2010, offers cardholders the opportunity to opt-in to receive special savings and rewards on diabetes-specific products as well as educational information and resources pertinent to those living with diabetes or who are caring for someone managing the chronic condition.

ExtraCare Beauty Club launched in January 2011 offering rewards to customers who frequently purchase beauty products. For every $50 in beauty purchases, shoppers earn $5 in ExtraBucks Rewards. Beauty Club members also receive a monthly email with special coupons, product information and advice from beauty experts. In addition CVS/pharmacy rewards all Beauty Club members with $3 ExtraBucks Rewards on their birthday.

In 2013, CVS/pharmacy launched the ExtraCare Pharmacy & Health Rewards™ program, which was designed to enhance ExtraCare in order to deliver rewards more frequently to pharmacy customers, and to give them more ways to earn rewards. Participants of ExtraCare Pharmacy & Health Rewards™ earn $5 Pharmacy & Health ExtraBucks® Rewards for every 10 prescriptions filled. Plus, they get credit and earn rewards for the other little things they do to stay healthy, such as getting immunizations or proactively managing their prescriptions with resources like text message alerts, email refill reminders or through CVS.com.

With more than 15 years of history, the ExtraCare® program has become a true competitive differentiator and more importantly, it’s become a powerful vehicle for CVS/pharmacy to get to know its customers and deliver greater value.
