I never know when my health will force me to change plans

Living in Hawthorne in the South Bay subregion, Kristy F. starts many days alongside her 14-year-old Shih Tzu. Walks to the beach and sunsets offer moments of joy, but her energy and plans depend on how she feels.

“I was born with a rare genetic condition. It’s an auto-inflammatory disease,” Kristy said.

Managing it requires specialty biologic medications and constant adjustments.

“Some days can be better than others, and then the next day you could be in a flare and just have to adjust, manage and change plans,” she said.

Handling her care alone can be unpredictable and especially difficult: “When I’m really sick, I don’t always have someone to help."

CVS Specialty helps ease that burden by delivering her biologic medications to her home. CVS Caremark supports the insurance process, and a nurse provides follow-up support.

“The medicine showed up at my door and a nurse coached me on the phone how to administer it,” she said.

Kristy also uses the CVS Health® app to request refills, receive coverage alerts and message pharmacists. When she visits MinuteClinic, prescriptions can be sent to CVS Pharmacy, helping keep her care connected.

As someone who is immunocompromised, Kristy must limit her exposure to illness. MinuteClinic and telehealth services provide alternatives to crowded waiting rooms while conserving the energy required to deal with Los Angeles area traffic.

“Having MinuteClinic and telehealth options means everything to me,” Kristy said.

That support extends to her family. When her father got sick during a trip, Kristy turned to MinuteClinic in Austin, Texas, where he received COVID-19 treatment.

Together, these resources help Kristy spend less energy navigating health care and more time living.

“CVS Health really just lets me focus on taking care of my health,” she said.
