I never expected health care to feel so intimidating

At Southern Methodist University in Dallas, Makena Brown’s senior year is filled with acting classes, business courses and the work of building a career that brings both interests together. Amid that momentum, she is also learning to manage her own health care.

When illness strikes, Makena turns to MinuteClinic. After a difficult emergency room experience, being able to schedule convenient care felt reassuring. Even without insurance, staff helped her receive care and the prescriptions she needed.

“MinuteClinic is so convenient and user-friendly for a college student,” Makena said.

As an acting major, missing class can mean losing essential rehearsal and performance time. Weekend appointments help her address minor illnesses quickly without losing focus on school or her career goals.

Just as meaningful is how CVS Pharmacy and MinuteClinic staff make care easier to navigate. When she feels sick and unsure what to take, a pharmacist walks her to an aisle and helps her find an option.

“They’re always so kind and approachable,” she said.

That warmth has replaced some of the uncertainty of making health decisions alone with growing confidence.

CVS Health services also move with her. When Makena visits her parents during holiday breaks, she can transfer prescriptions, including medications for anxiety and depression, to their local CVS Pharmacy. Refill support and easy transfers help her stay consistent wherever she is.

“It makes a big impact to know they care,” she said. “Anything health-related is already scary for a college student, and CVS feels like a family-friendly place.”

For a student balancing classes, creative ambition and new adult responsibilities, dependable care offers more than convenience. It gives Makena the freedom to move forward knowing trusted help is nearby.
