Addressing COVID-19 vaccine hesitancy

March 02, 2021 | CVS Health Live

According to the National Institutes of Health, 75 to 80 percent of Americans must receive the COVID-19 vaccine for the U.S. to reach herd immunity. However, mistrust in the vaccine among Black Americans — stemming from a long-standing history of racism and injustice — may impact how quickly the U.S. can turn the corner on the pandemic. In this episode of CVS Health Live, our expert panel will address important aspects of this issue, including understanding the role of historical injustices in present-day distrust, and the steps that health care providers and the industry can take to improve trust among the Black community as it relates to the health care system overall.

Moderated by David Casey, Senior Vice President and Chief Diversity Officer, CVS Health, this episode will feature perspectives from Georges Benjamin, M.D., Executive Director, American Public Health Association, and Mercilla Ryan-Harris, M.P.H., Co-Founder, BLKHLTH.
