I didn't want diabetes to become my whole life

For months, Javarr Bolding brushed off the signs. Then 28, he felt dehydrated, was urinating more often and assumed it was from drinking more water. But when his vision suddenly became blurry, he knew something was wrong. He went to the emergency room, where he was given an IV. Soon after, his doctor diagnosed him with type 2 diabetes.

Diabetes runs in his family, but facing it himself felt overwhelming. CVS Health made caring for it feel more manageable, with refill reminders and easy access to medications through CVS Pharmacy. Those touchpoints helped him stay consistent and adjust to a new normal.

"With CVS Health, I can move forward with hope," Javarr said.

Hope shows up in everyday life, from singing karaoke to caring for his dog, Ashton. A self-proclaimed foodie, he became more mindful about what and when he eats. He still has a sweet tooth, but now sees candy more as a reward than a regular part of his diet.

“Diabetes helped me learn to be kind to my body,” he said.

When Javarr needed quick answers or wanted to check on something during the day, the MinuteClinic near his home in Bethlehem gave him a place to turn without losing a day to travel or waiting rooms.

"MinuteClinic meant that I didn't have to make an hour-long trip to my doctor," said Javarr, an account services manager. "That simplicity meant everything to me."

Today, Javarr goes to the gym regularly, maintains a healthy weight, and is nearing his doctor’s preferred A1C target. With medicine, consistency and convenient care close by, he has found a rhythm that supports his health and independence without letting diabetes become the center of his life.

"CVS Health fits the way I live," Javarr said. "I can handle what I need and get back to my day."
