Key points

  • Maintaining a healthy weight is an important part of overall health.
  • The MinuteClinic® weight-loss program offers ongoing evidence-based weight-loss care delivered conveniently — with strong results.
  • It combines lifestyle coaching and nutritional guidance with FDA-approved weight loss medications, known as GLP-1s, when clinically appropriate.
  • The program is an example of how MinuteClinic helps people achieve their weight loss goals.

With about 74% of U.S. adults meeting criteria for being overweight or obese — and studies on obesity suggesting nearly half of U.S. adults could be considered obese by 2030 — the need for safe, effective and accessible weight management care continues to grow.

Maintaining a healthy weight is essential to preventing many health complications and chronic conditions, including hypertension, type 2 diabetes, coronary heart disease and certain cancers. But making weight-conscious lifestyle choices is not always easy, and there can be multiple barriers to losing weight on one’s own. Research also suggests fewer than 5% of individuals eligible for evidence-based weight management treatments actually receive them.

To help address these gaps, the MinuteClinic® weight-loss program provides medically supervised care designed to support sustainable weight management and healthier lifestyles for adults 18 and older.

Clinically supervised care supports long-term health

Through MinuteClinic, board-certified providers begin with a comprehensive evaluation of each patient’s medical history, diet, physical activity, behavioral factors and underlying health conditions. Based on this assessment, providers develop treatment plans tailored to each patient’s needs and goals. Their care is focused on long-term health and chronic disease prevention, which studies on weight management programs have shown can lead to better results and more sustainable outcomes.

When clinically appropriate, MinuteClinic providers may prescribe FDA-approved weight-loss medications, including GLP-1 therapies, alongside ongoing nutrition counseling and lifestyle1  coaching.

If an individual is not at a healthy weight, even modest weight loss can help improve their blood pressure, cholesterol and blood sugar levels. For example, losing 5 to 10% of body weight can help lower the risk of heart disease and hypertension.

Community-based care delivers meaningful results

As of 2026, results from the MinuteClinic weight-loss program demonstrate strong outcomes:

  • 85% of patients lost weight within their first three months in the program
  • 60% of patients lost over 5% of their weight in five or more months of treatment
  • 95% of patients were seen for their first visit in less than one week from scheduling2

“It is well known that people with healthy eating patterns live longer and are at a lower risk for obesity, heart disease and type 2 diabetes,” says David Fairchild, MD, Chief Medical Officer, Retail Health, CVS Health. “Ongoing support from providers to create and follow a healthier lifestyle is an important part of MinuteClinic’s weight-loss program. We offer a safe and effective collaboration between patient and provider, ensuring appropriate use of medications, continuous monitoring and support beyond a single prescription.”

Care that goes beyond a prescription

Unlike online-only prescribing platforms or do-it-yourself approaches, MinuteClinic provides a comprehensive medical evaluation, appropriate prescribing and continuous follow-up care—with virtual and in-person options

Patients receive ongoing monitoring and support to help ensure medications are used effectively. Providers can also screen and manage related chronic conditions such as type 2 diabetes, high cholesterol and hypertension, helping close additional care gaps during treatment.

Convenient access to weight management care

Patients can access the MinuteClinic weight-loss program in person or virtually seven days a week, including evenings and weekends.

MinuteClinic weight-loss program services are covered by most health insurance plans. Flexible payment options such as FSA and HSA are also available. Medications, if prescribed, are an additional cost. For patients without insurance or who prefer to self-pay, MinuteClinic offers affordable out-of-pocket options.

By combining convenient neighborhood locations, virtual care access and clinically guided treatment plans, MinuteClinic is helping expand access to evidence-based weight management care in communities across the country.
