CVS Health joins American Heart Association in supporting women’s heart health as national presenting sponsor of Go Red for Women®

Customers can support the campaign at CVS Pharmacy locations nationwide during American Heart Month

WOONSOCKET, R.I. — CVS Health (NYSE: CVS) today joined the American Heart Association (AHA) in advocating for education and awareness about women’s heart health as the national presenting sponsor of the Go Red for Women movement. Throughout February, which is American Heart Month, customers will have the opportunity to give the gift of heart health by letting the cashier know that they would like to make a donation at the register at CVS Pharmacy locations nationwide.

“Cardiovascular disease is the number one killer of women, claiming more lives than all forms of cancer combined,” said Angie Meoli, Senior Vice President, Network Strategy and Provider Experience, CVS Health and incoming National Chairperson for the Go Red for Women movement. “Our support of the American Heart Association’s Go Red for Women movement is helping to advance education and research that will help save the lives of moms, wives, daughters and sisters everywhere.”

Since 2017, CVS Health has supported Go Red for Women as the national presenting sponsor, raising more than $18 million for the AHA. Go Red for Women has funded life-saving women’s research, advanced public health policy, championed closing gender gaps in research and STEM and created a platform for women to address their greatest health risk – cardiovascular disease. This year, from January 31 through March 6, customers at CVS Pharmacy locations will have the option to round up their change to the nearest dollar or make a $1 or $3 dollar donation to support the AHA. Customers can also give at CVS Health will also be encouraging employees to show their support for the movement by sharing their stories and wearing red on AHA’s National Wear Red Day on February 5.

“As the leading global volunteer organization dedicated to fighting heart disease and stroke, we’re proud to once again be joined by CVS Health to spread awareness about women’s heart health,” said Bert Scott, volunteer chairman of the Association’s Board of Directors. “We encourage everyone to ‘wear red and give’ at CVS Pharmacy locations to support Go Red for Women.”

According to the AHA, nearly 80 percent of cardiac events can be prevented, yet most women do not have the awareness about cardiovascular disease to understand and prevent their risk. Heart disease and stroke can affect a woman at any age. In fact, new research shows younger generations of women in communities of color, including those in Generation Z and millennials, are less likely to be aware of their greatest health threat, including knowing the warning signs of heart attacks and strokes. Through the Go Red for Women movement, CVS Health and the AHA are working to help women take charge of their heart health and encourage others to do the same.
