I knew I needed it – I just kept putting it off

In Manhattan, Ed Kesicki, a retired biotech scientist, can walk almost anywhere he needs to go, including CVS Pharmacy, just a few blocks from home.

“My health care routine starts with a walk, not a drive,” he said.

While picking up a prescription, Ed’s CVS pharmacist made him aware that he's eligible for the shingles vaccine. He knew the science. He had seen how painful and debilitating shingles could be for friends and family. But like many people, he procrastinated.

“I have a PhD in chemistry, and I still needed a push to get my shingles vaccine,” Ed said.

His CVS pharmacist explained the two-dose process, discussed possible side effects, and helped him understand what to expect.

“They answered my questions and made it really seamless,” he said. “I felt like they really cared.”

The next day, Ed returned for his first dose. CVS Pharmacy followed up when it was time for the second. What had been on his mental to-do list for years was done — close to home, on a familiar route, with support from someone he trusted.

Since then, Ed has read emerging research suggesting the shingles vaccine may offer healthy-aging benefits beyond helping prevent shingles. As a scientist, that possibility reinforced how good he felt about his decision. But what stayed with him most was the individualized guidance.

“With CVS Health, preventive care felt personal,” Ed said. “And that made it easier to act.”

Today, Ed stays proactive at his neighborhood CVS, where he can pick up prescriptions, get recommended vaccines and grab everyday essentials while running errands.

“Having CVS nearby makes everyday life simpler,” he said.
