In October 2025, CVS Pharmacy reached an impressive milestone, having collected more than 10 million pounds of unneeded and expired medications since the launch of its medication disposal program in 2017.
At CVS Health, we understand the importance of responsible medication disposal in helping to keep our homes, workplaces, and communities safe – helping to prevent potentially serious consequences, including accidental poisoning, misuse and potential contamination of our waterways.
Supporting Safe Drug Disposal
We’re committed to making a difference by providing our customers and community members with convenient ways to dispose of unwanted or expired medications safely. That’s why more than 4,000 CVS Pharmacy locations offer a secure medication disposal kiosk located near the pharmacy that accepts prescription drugs, over-the-counter medications and liquid medicine bottles containing less than four ounces of liquid.
Since the program's launch in 2017, we have made significant strides in promoting safe disposal practices, including consistently creating access to additional disposal kiosks each year.
