Milwaukee Alderman Jim Bohl announced a partnership with CVS Pharmacy to bring free, postage-paid prescription drug return envelopes to local consumers.
CVS Health is dedicated to helping the communities we serve address and prevent prescription drug abuse. One effective mitigation strategy is to make convenient and safe medication disposal accessible to communities. This not only stops diversion and misuse of prescription medications, it prevents these drugs from contaminating waterways.
In late 2016, we announced a partnership with leaders in the city of Milwaukee to develop a unique solution: postage-paid drug disposal envelopes available in 10 Milwaukee-area CVS Pharmacy locations and select city departments at no cost to consumers. CVS Pharmacy is contributing the envelopes and the printing for the Drug Mail Back Program, a voluntary, first-of-its kind partnership linking government and private entities.
“The epidemic knows no boundaries, and is indiscriminate in taking the lives of people across all social and economic classes,” said Milwaukee Alderman Jim Bohl, the primary sponsor of the legislation to create the program. “We need unique partnerships and new approaches across all sectors to fight it, and we need all hands on deck working together if we are to truly make an impact.”
Additional partners for this initiative include legislation co-sponsor Michael J. Murphy, the Milwaukee Metropolitan Sewerage District, the Department of Justice, the Drug Enforcement Administration, the U.S. Postal Service, and US Bank.
