One profession with endless impact

October 1, 2026 |2 minute read

If there's one thing I want people to know about the profession of pharmacy, it's that pharmacists aren't robots who put pills in a bottle.

I'm proud of the clinical interventions that we make and the time we take to deeply counsel a patient. Those moments do so much more than just fill a prescription. They prevent hospitalizations, protect families and drive lasting health outcomes.

What I enjoy most about my work is knowing that even a small interaction can make a meaningful difference in someone's day or in their health.

As pharmacists, we're one of the most accessible healthcare professionals, and sometimes a quick conversation can make a big difference. Whether it's answering a question, helping someone understand their medications or simply being there to listen.

So although I do not interact with patients every day like some pharmacists do in CVS retail, the decisions and programs that I recommend to my employers will impact thousands of members.

I'm proud to be a pharmacist because pharmacists combine science, problem solving and compassion in a way that can have a meaningful impact on patients.

Pharmacists do so much more than what people realize. Beyond medications, we provide clinical expertise, educate patients, collaborate with prescribers, improve healthcare processes and serve as advocates for patient safety.

Transitioning from the hospital to home can be challenging for our members, especially when they're managing complex medication regimens. I enjoy talking to our members and knowing that they have someone looking out for them during this period.

I love that I can build relationships with my patients and be someone that they trust for their healthcare needs.

Being a pharmacist is more than just dispensing medications, it's about being an advocate for my patients and my community.

We're real human beings with emotions, valuable knowledge and specialized skills. We're educators, friends, community staples, decision makers, advocates, safety nets and catalysts for better health.

To all my pharmacists out there. Thank you for delivering the care that our communities deserve.

There’s no single way to define the impact of a pharmacist.

Across CVS Health, pharmacists bring their expertise to many different roles and care settings, united by a commitment to helping people achieve better health. As pharmacists from across CVS Health share in the video above, that impact can take many forms – from clinical interventions and patient counseling to trusted relationships and everyday moments of care.

Across CVS Health, pharmacists apply their education, clinical judgment and problem-solving skills across a range of roles and care settings. They educate patients, collaborate with other health care professionals, advocate for patient safety and help people navigate what can often be a complicated health care journey. What connects these different roles is the expertise pharmacists bring to each one, and the difference they can make for the communities they serve.

Because pharmacists are among the most accessible health care professionals, even seemingly small interactions can make a meaningful difference. That comes through clearly in the reflections of our colleagues – from CVS Pharmacy staff pharmacist Sume Chakkalakel’s focus on accessibility and trust to CVS Caremark's Diana Wodarczyk’s reflection on the combination of science, problem-solving and compassion come together in the profession.

The role of the pharmacist continues to evolve, too. As new tools, technology and models of care create more opportunities for pharmacists to put their education and training to work, their ability to support patients and improve care can grow alongside those opportunities.

During American Pharmacists Month, CVS Health is proud to recognize pharmacists across the company and the expertise, compassion and commitment they bring to the people we serve every day.
