CVS Health’s work to expand access to clinical research was featured this week at the 2022 Summit for Clinical Ops Executives (SCOPE) conference. CVS Health’s Clinical Trial Services (CTS) General Manager and Senior Vice President Tony Clapsis was a keynote speaker at the conference, presenting “Putting Community in Clinical Research”, where he highlighted how CTS is utilizing CVS Health’s nationwide presence within the communities that we serve to improve access and engagement in clinical research, especially in diverse, underrepresented populations.

On the first day of the summit, CVS Health announced its collaboration with Medable Inc., a leading software provider for decentralized trials, to further enhance patient engagement and trial delivery at select CVS MinuteClinics inside HealthHUB locations and online through their technology platform.
In addition to his keynote, Clapsis spoke at a fireside chat with Sans Thakur, Chief Growth Officer of Medable, discussing the merits of community engagement and innovative approaches to improving clinical research.

Also, at the meeting, CTS Lead Director Michael Cohen participated in a panel discussion — “Collaboration Among Stakeholders to Address Resources” — with Jessica Perry, Director of Patient Centricity, Clinical Innovation at Moderna, and Dr. Jeff Kingsley, CEO of Centricity Research. The session highlighted CVS Health’s collaboration with Moderna on a current breakthrough Phase III mRNA vaccine trial for Cytomegalovirus at seven trial-ready CVS MinuteClinics inside HealthHUBs across the state of Georgia to engage patients and conduct the study.  A key area of interest that was discussed focused on how CTS is effectively engaging large and diverse populations across the country that are critical to successful trial recruitment and delivery.

SCOPE’s annual meeting brings together thousands of leaders in the clinical research community from Biotech and Pharma to public health, to discuss topics focusing on advances and innovative solutions in all aspects of clinical trial management and operations.
