American Diabetes Association
Supporting a healthier future for the 1 in 10 Americans with diabetes
More than 122 million people are living with diabetes or prediabetes in the U.S. and one in five adults with diabetes don’t know they have it. Diabetes related costs totaled $327 billion in the U.S. in 2017. These staggering facts are ones CVS Health is hoping to change through a new collaboration with the American Diabetes Association® (ADA).
CVS Health is proud to join forces with the ADA, the nation’s leading voluntary health organization fighting to bend the curve on the diabetes epidemic and help people living with diabetes thrive. Through this joint effort, we will support families in helping prevent and manage diabetes, as well as fund research on the devastating health disparities that fuel the diabetes epidemic. CVS Health has entered into a three-year, $10 million partnership with the ADA to support patients on their health journey; empowering them to prevent and manage diabetes and work to eliminate health disparities. As the National Strategic Partner of Project Power, we are aiming to engage and educate more than 5 million patients and caregivers.
Project Power aims to tear down barriers that limit access to vital resources and empower participants to effectively prevent and manage diabetes. A primary focus of the program will be to encourage adults to take control of their diabetes and to raise awareness among the 88 million Americans living with prediabetes through the Type 2 Diabetes Risk test and health screenings.
The need for engagement and education on the problem of childhood obesity has never been more urgent. New data from the ADA shows that the incidence and acuity of type 2 diabetes in children increased significantly, close to doubling, during the peak of the COVID-19 pandemic. More pediatric patients were hospitalized from March to December 2020 compared to the same time period in 2019.
The support from CVS Health will also fund research to better understand and address the unmet needs in underserved communities leading to the future elimination of these disparities.
CVS Health will also host an in-store fundraising campaign at all CVS Pharmacy locations nationwide during National Diabetes Month® to give customers an opportunity to support the ADA to increase health equity and build a future without diabetes.
